1. JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan (PD 特別研究員/外国人特別研究員)
JSPS offers several types of postdoctoral fellowships for researchers to conduct research in Japan.

• For International Fellowships: the duration is up to 2 years, and application deadlines are typically in April and August each year. The selection is usually competitive, and a good record of publication could be an advantage. Details can be found here.

• For Domestic Fellowships (JSPS PD): intended for researchers based in Japan, the duration is up to 3 years, with applications usually due in early June each year. Detials can be found here.

2. Postdoc supported by Project Budget
We also welcome postdoctoral researchers funded by our research projects. If you are interested in this option, please contact Prof. Guo directly to inquire about available projects and funding conditions.

1. For International Students
There are several scholarship pathways available for international students who wish to pursue PhD studies.

• University Recommendations for MEXT Scholarship: The Program in Engineering Mechanics and Energy offers University Recommendation MEXT Scholarship opportunities (Special Program: PBL). Applications are usually due in August each year. The selection process is competitive, and having a publication record can be an advantage. Details can be found here.

• Embassy Recommendations for MEXT Scholarship: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) also provides scholarships through Embassy Recommendation. The application procedures and deadlines vary by country or region, so please consult the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your area for specific information. Compared to the university recommendation track, the embassy recommendation process is usually less competitive and offers more opportunities. Some information can be found here.

• JSPS DC1 / DC2: JSPS offers scholarships for first- and second-year PhD students in Japan. However, these scholarships are highly competitive, and applicants with a strong publication record are more likely to be selected. Details can be found here.

• CSC Scholarship for Chinese Students: For Chinese students, the CSC scholarship provided by Chinese Scholarship Council (国家建設高水平大学公派研究生項目による中国政府派遣大学院生の選抜（博士後期課程）) is also a good opportunity to study oversea. The application deadline is typically in December each year. Details can be found here.

2. For Domestic Students
There are several scholarship pathways available for domestic students (citizens, permenant residents) who wish to pursue PhD studies.

• JST SPRING Scholarship: JST SPRING is a very good opportunity for domestic students to pursue PhD studies. Details can be found here.

• JSPS DC1 / DC2: JSPS offers scholarships for first- and second-year PhD students in Japan. This scholarship is prestigious and important for domestic students. Details can be found here.

3. Other opportunities for both International and Domestic Students
The University of Tsukuba also offers various other PhD scholarship opportunities. Some require applications through the university, while others allow students to apply directly to the scholarship foundation. Please explore the opportunities to obtain these scholarships. For master’s students, scholarship opportunities are generally limited. However, for those who demonstrate strong academic performance and a solid publication record during study, the C2S Lab will consider providing support through a Research Assistant (RA) salary.
